Can it be mounted to the side?
I’m not sure about that. I haven’t seen it in real yet. Maybe it’s possible making some small modifications.
Can anyone advise if New Expedit Shelving Unit be wall-mounted (not rest on the floor)?

I’m not sure what “mounted to the side” means. I saw the EXPEDIT desk at Ikea/Frisco this weekend. They had the 4 cube x 4 cube bookshelf in black set up as a room divider with a black desk on one side a white desk on the other. It looks like the desk part can be attached anywhere along the bookcase. Very cool – I almost bought it, but I don’t do spontaneous well!

Does anyone know how necessary it is to wall mount the Expidit shelving units (I’m thinking of getting the 72 7/8 x 72 7/8). I live in an apartment and move every few years and don’t like having to drill into the walls but I really love this shelf! Ideas..suggestions?
we haven’t got the expedit desk in australia and I’m so devastated!!!! And I just realised that Ikea in the states is so much cheaper than in Australia(50% saving almost!).

I recently bought the birch effect shelf/desk combo and love it immensely; however, I noticed a couple glossy spots on the surface of the desk, and after wiping it down with a damp paper towel, was extremely dismayed to find that the finish came off like paint. I hope they let me exchange the desk for a new one, because it is not only extremely functional in my apartment, but also gorgeous as all get-out.
Al, I’ve had two expedit pieces for several months and never mounted them to the wall, even here in earthquake country (Los Angeles). I’ll probably pay for it later, though they are sturdy now.
Niki, the desk cannot be used without the bookcase, as the desk is simply an L shape. It clamps onto the bookshelves. You can clamp it to any two bookshelves, not the middle two as seen in the photo here.
Does anyone know if the desk can be mounted to the expedit bookcase that is 4 x 2 on it’s side so it is the same height as the desk? Will the clamps fir the thicker wood?
Do you have to connect the desk to the 4×4 shelving? I’d like to get the get the 4×2 for a very small room taking the 4 up for storage and 2 across for the desk. Will this work?
I have the expedit desk, and it can be mounted on the side. Also, the desk can be mounted to the 4 x 2 bookcase, but the bookcase has to be vertical. The clamps will not fit the thicker wood.

Does anyone knows if the desk is removable? I live in a small apartment and a hava a 4X2 expedit in vertical.

You can connect the desk to a 4×2, 4×3, 4×4 bookshelf. I’ve owned a 4×4 for more than a year and it’s all the desk/shelf space I need. I have my desk mounted to the side so the whole set could be placed on the corner or the room. You can detach the desk pieces but you will need to disassemble the 2 pieces of board that make the desk.
Hi, could anyone tell me the height of the individual shelves? Was wondering if they would fit 12″ records in. Thanks.

There is a box Ikea sells that fits exactly in the hole and its 14″, so the 12″ records will fit perfectly.
Does anyone know if it matters what year the bookshelf has to be bought in for the desk to fit. Because I noticed that the old bookshelves are made of thinner wood.
Just got the new Expedit desk attachment in Black/Brown – Does anyone else have a problem with scratch marks – everytime my son puts something on the desk I am on guard for possible scratching – questioning whether I have made the wrong decision! – let me know if you have experienced this..getting ready to join the LONG LONG return line!
Does anybody know if a keyboard shelf can be mounted under the desk. Typing for a while can be a bit of a strain on the wrists. I know the desk is mostly hollow, wondering what type of anchors if any can/should be used for the underside to mount keyboard shelf.
