I’ve had a Nominell for about 2005, and it’s served me very well in every day use. The upholstery is a bit crushed now, so there’s not too much cushioning, but it’s still perfectly serviceable.
Unfortunately I have to move house soon, and if I want to take the chair with me I’ll need to disassemble it… and after 5 years of being pushed together by my weight, I can’t figure out any way of removing the gas-strut-and-seat bit from the legs-and-castors bit… I fear that I may have to abandon this chair and buy a new one in my new location

Got one of these a few months a go and rather happy with it.

However, it doesn’t seem to be possible to recline (the back of the chair) without the angle of the seat also leaning back and pressing up into the underside of my legs, cutting off circulation.

Anyone know if there’s a way to move the back backwards without the seat leaning back?

I bought a Nominell chair from the As-Is section, and it seemed just fine despite some stains and fading on the fabric. The As-Is label, however, said “missing part.” I came to realize that although the lever to move the chair up and down will move around, it doesn’t do anything to the chair. The chair seems to be stuck in its lowest position and I can’t figure out how to raise it. Does anybody have any insight into how to fix (or hack) this problem? Please let me know!

I have had a Nominell for about three years, maybe even four years now, and everything about the chair is AOK except for the SQUEAKING! Every little move I make all day long is squeak, squirk, chirp, groan, squeak…well, you get the picture. I have tried oiling the chair numerous times over the years to no avail. This is what I would call a structural squeak. It comes from nowhere and everywhere at once. I don’t know why I am still using it, really… I guess it is one of those little annoyances you just tune out after a while. Anyway, would I buy another Ikea chair? Probably, will it be a Nominell, NO WAY!

I bought the Nominell yesterday and I am very pleased with it so far. Very comfortalbe and sturdy and good back support. What I haven’t managed to figure out is what the knob under the seat controls and whether it works in combination with back rest lever. Can anyone enlighten me. Thank you. John

I have had my Nominell chair for a few months now and I really like it except for the hydraulic issue. At first, it would raise itself back up to the highest position overnight, as mentioned by one of the previous reviewer, however, now the hydraulic system seems to be totally out of whack because the hydraulic “pumps” every few minutes while I’m sitting in it. It’s as if it’s trying to raise itself back up but can’t due to the weight of my body so it just keeping pumping – quite annoying when I’m trying to study or work at my desk to have such a distracting chair.

Any suggestions for how I can fix this problem? Otherwise, I love the chair, just wish I could fix the hydraulic problem.

I love this chair even though I sliced my hand on the sharp edges on the underside of the chair while do a heft and turn over. I mentioned this problem to Ikea, but they say with numerous trying-to-slice-hands-on-bottom tests there is no problem. Haha. Funny. I had to cut the sharp edges off with an Xacto blade so I didn’t cut myself a third time.

Love the chair! Though it does squeak something awful.

You wouldn’t happen to have the INSTRUCTIONS or at least know where to find it… My brother lost the bolts/screws and Manual.
